Quick answers

My spots disappeared

Your spots live on the device that created them. If you reinstalled the App, switched devices, or wiped your phone, they are gone unless iCloud Backup was on.

To protect them, open Settings and turn on iCloud Backup. Your spots are then copied to your own iCloud and your other devices can read them.

How do I move my spots to a new phone?

Turn on iCloud Backup on the old phone and wait for it to finish. Sign in to the same Apple ID on the new phone, install Shpots, and turn on iCloud Backup there. Your spots appear.

Is iCloud Backup the same as paying for something?

No. The App is free and has no subscription. iCloud Backup uses your own iCloud account and your own storage.

How do I delete everything?

Open Shpots, then Settings, then Delete All Data. This erases every spot, photo, video, and collection on the device. If iCloud Backup is on, the copy there is deleted too, along with the copy on your other devices. The action cannot be undone.

How do I share a spot or collection?

Open a spot and tap the share button in the header. The other person needs Shpots open and needs to be near you. Their phone appears in a list, you pick it, and the spot goes straight across. Nothing passes through a server, so it works without internet, though both phones need Bluetooth and the local network switched on.

Sharing cannot find the other phone

Check all of these on both phones: Shpots is open and on the share screen, Bluetooth is on, the local network permission was allowed, and Airplane Mode is not blocking the wireless radios. Moving closer helps. iOS asks for local network access the first time, and if you declined it, grant it again in the iOS Settings app under Shpots.

Why does the map ask for location?

Only when you tap to find yourself on the map, or save a spot at your current position. Background location is never used, and the App never watches where you go.

A spot has the wrong address, weather, or elevation

Addresses come from Apple. Weather and elevation come from Open-Meteo, and sun and moon times come from MET Norway. If an address looks wrong, you can edit it yourself on the spot. Weather refreshes when you open a spot.

Where I've Been is missing a place I visited

The map colors a state or country once a spot there has an address. A spot saved without internet has no address until the App can look one up, so open the App on a connection and it fills in.

The App is using a lot of storage

Photos and videos take nearly all of it. Open Settings, then Storage, to see the breakdown, and delete the media or spots you no longer want.
